Park Avenue Synagogue

We are winding our wedding season down as we groove into the holidays and get ready for tons of parties.  We have many more weddings to post and this one was pure joy performing with Azi Schwartz the music director & cantor at Park Avenue Synagogue.  Again, huge tip of the hat to FĂȘte {feteny.com} for bringing us on board.  We were string quartet and piano.  Azi has a voice that will truly make you melt. You can hear him performing the most devine music on his CD "Ahavat Olam", a collection of Jewish romantic music with chamber orchestra.  http://pasyn.org/  Or better yet, catch an inspiring service at Park Avenue Synagogue.

Brooklyn Museum

We adore the Brooklyn Museum and the below are photos of us setting up.  Brian Dorsey was the photographer and we will be sure to share his photos when they come in. The bride & groom were chic hipsters from Brooklyn and they were classic with a bit of an edge.  The group were the usual suspects for quartet & piano {Ariana, Kate, Hannah, Lauren & myself, with Ted doing sound.}  The Museum was open to the public while we were soundchecking and we had a little fan {shown below} who I invited to play for us.  We released the bride around :60 to create that swirly crescendo for her entrance.

Processional
"Make you feel my love" ~ Bob Dylan
"Stand by Me" ~ Roy Orbison

Bride
"Halo by Beyonce" with a "fake out" intro of here comes the bride

Turntable Tuesday

by Ted Ganung

For this week I bring one of my all time favorite songs "Entre dos aguas" by one of my favorite guitar players, Paco de Lucia. An absolute timeless piece of music that DJ's have been playing for years. Truly a versatile song that could be played for dinner, potentially cocktail music, and if the vibe is right even dancing. My favorite part about this video besides the 70's style outfits and hair, is the perfection and precision executed by the musicians while still remaining so free and relaxed.

Studio 548

We loved performing at the hip and groovie, Studio 548.  Jung Lee & her team at FĂȘte completely transformed this space from stark to stellar.  Hugs to her once again for bringing us on board for another amazing opportunity to stretch our creative wings.

This bride and groom were very romantic but urban, so their choices were very personalized.  The bride entered to our version of "Kissing You" from Romeo & Juliet.  You can hear our recording from the processional below with the amazingly talented Noreda Street.

Woodstock, New York

This was a triple hit pleasure.  We got to perform at the Legendary Maverick Concert Hall in Woodstock New York, it was a same sex wedding, and the client was my friend Eric Redd.  He is a mega talent and has just released his new CD "Don't Care" now available on itunes.  https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/dont-care-single/id569036652    It's extra meaningful when friends and contacts in the industry request our services for their own weddings.

As always, it was important that Eric put his own spin on the ceremony and we were ready to hop on board.  We accompanied the incredible Gisele Jackson on The Capenters "We've only Just Begun" as well as a foot-stomping, hand clapping version of the Richie Havens version of "Here comes the Sun".  Both were backed by a "raise the roof" Gospel Choir.  Eric & Will entered to a slow, sexy, jazz version of "Here comes the bride".   Their big cuddly dog "Bear" was the man of honor.

We heart Eric & Will.

The gardens at Wave Hill

Beautiful wedding overlooking the Hudson River at the Wave Hill Gardens.  Truly a magical place.

The location was serene and naturally beautiful and the bride's choice in repertoire reflected her easy going style.  Hugs to to Joan Glenn at Six Degrees of Celebration http://6degreesofcelebration.com for bringing us on board with flowers by Hatch.  http://hatchcreativestudio.com/

Performance at The Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art has to be one of our favorite museums ever, so we were excited to be invited to perform there. We played three different sets for an audience of over a few hundred people. For the first two sets we played some of our favorite high energy pieces that were supported with live beats played by our own, DJ Ted Ganung. http://deepervisionrecordings.com/home.cfm  The beats were simple yet highly accessible grooves that we composed.  During the break between sets Ted took us on journey from experimental House & Techno to the soulful sounds of Liquid Drum & Bass.

The atmosphere was super sophisticated but serene and the guests were served an array of artistically presented foor and drinks from Pinch Food Design. http://pinchfooddesign.com

For the Third Set we played with just The Strings & Grand Piano and the repertoire was a combination of contemporary & filmscore.  Highlights of the night included our latest arrangement for the Sex & The City Theme, We Found Love, and Moondance by Van Morrison.

Turntable Tuesday

by Ted Ganung

For this week I bring a special track that was a original tune of mine re-mixed by Dusselfdorf based producer Gareth Bilaney. Gareth brings his signature deep house sound, lush chords, bouncy basslines, and a smooth hypnotic melody that perfectly compliments the beat. A good balance between oldschool sensibilities and feel balanced with modern production techniques. Already receiving support from NYC Deep House DJ's like Oscar P & Mike Dominico, the remix is due for release Winter 2013.

NY Open performance

We performed at The Presidents Gate for the US Open on Monday.  It was a little bit of a nail-biter because we were outside and it was scheduled to rain at any moment.  But we arrived and the weather looked like it would hold up.  The Presidents Gate is the area where all the tennis players arrive as well as celebs, press & assorted VIP's.  Unfortunately, I don't know any tennis players, so while I saw hundreds arrive, I didn't know who was who.  We did have quite a flux of admirer's, videographers & media taking our photos, so you might see us in a background shot somewhere.

The sky did finally crack open after about an hour of performing and it was a mad dash to higher ground & safe coverage.  Hugs go to our usual suspects, Ariana Rosen, Hannah Hens-Piazza, Lauren Riley-Rigby, Ted Ganung & Annette Homann (who is pinch hitting for Kate while she has her baby.)  Kudo's also go out to Tera Buerkle of GO! Productions in Atlanta for booking us and organizing.  I know it's sometimes like herding cats to get all the musicians together for huge events, so she had her work cut out for her.

We heart the US Open.

The Pleasantdale Chateau

This summer has been filled to the brim with garden events!  It has been a little bit of a nail biter with the temperamental weather extremes, but the gods have been smiling down on us and we have been super lucky that all of our garden events have been picture perfect. Particularly our ceremony at the Pleasantdale Chateau.  Our bride and groom chose alt/rock repertoire for their processional, so it was our job to make them as romantic & fresh as our beautiful surroundings.  http://www.pleasantdale.com/

Cesar & Bruce's wedding

It has been crazy busy since we hit April &  it's been a little challenging finding the time to post our events, but we have lots to bring to our blog in the next few weeks.  Today's feature is our first same sex wedding for Cesar & Bruce.

Cesar & Bruce had their ceremony at the Forest Hills Tennis Club around an Olympic size pool, complete with fountain. Their theatrical reception was fittingly at the Hudson Theater with ĂŒber DJ Dina Regine (http://www.djdinaregine.com) as the mistress of the mix.  As you can see in the photos, Cesar had a glorious train made of exquisite feathers and sworovski cystals as well as the tulle skirt made for his sweet dog Idina, who was his "maid of honor".  He was a vision of haute couture.

I first heard from Cesar in late March with his dream of having an orchestra perform the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah for his entrance.   After confirming that he definitely wanted a chamber orchestra with choir, we got busy rehearsing and made Cesar's vision a reality.   His granted us complete creative license to push the envelope with his first and foremost request that everyone, guests and musicians included have fun.    We had a blast.

Please see the slide show below with photos courtesy of Matthew Lee from the photography studio CLY Creation. Thanks Matthew!  http://clycreation.com/

"January" the film

I am super excited to report that I was asked by British Producer Jessica Malik and Music Supervisor Sam Mumsford (Sony London) to record the Chopin Nocturne Opus 55, #1 as the "center piece" of the new Thriller  "January" to be released this year.

The film is produced by the London & LA based film company of "Face Films"  (http://www.facefilms.com/2010/index.htmlwith executive producer Steven Schneider, producer of the “Paranormal Activity” franchise, “The Devil Inside” and “Insidious” as well as the 2012 chilling TV series "The River" on ABC.  Clearly Steven Schneider has his finger on the pulse of the horror genre.

We will be posting the trailer soon, but in the meantime, here is an excerpt from the recording. ....

Turntable Tuesday

-Ted Ganung

For this edition of Turntable Tuesday I bring you the Video Edit of my original production "Liquid."Full of many different influences, liquid is the synthesis of drum and bass with a new chill, melodic twist. The bass and organ sounds are reminiscent of island reggae which gives the track a relaxed yet heavy groove. Liquid, become the most sucessfull track of disco.hr records, so the label boss DJ Go Cut decided to make a video to give you a full story of how we party and have fun in New York, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Zagreb, and Perth. Enjoy DJ Go Cut's hipnotic voice, and Ted's beats while watching our new video!

gardens in april

It's only the beginning of May and we have already done 2 garden events.  The first being a beautiful bar mitzvah designed by Liz Liberatore & photos by Constance Brukin http://www.constancebrukin.com/.

The weather reports were threatening rain all week, so that is always the big nail biter when it comes to garden parties.  There always needs to be a back-up plan that provides warmth and coverage for guests and vendors alike.  The gods were with us on April 29th and we had a picture perfect day.

We provided piano & string quartet for prelude to the ceremony.  Then we took over for the cocktail hour ending it with a slamming horah where we performed together with tracks from our own DJ/producer, Ted Ganung. Ted rocked this party for the next 3 hours and not only pleased the adults but kept the kids on the dance floor pumping their fists in the air.

more ira lippke & the metropolitan club

I adore working at the metropolitan club and it's a double yummy when the photographer is Ira Lippke.  This bride and groom were classic but really playful.  The repertoire they chose took me by surprise and it was so much fun to play & arrange.   Total Entertainment & Fredi Ross provided all the music which rocked the night away.

We were:  piano & string quartet.  All prelude music was romantic filmscore
